Should CEOs be on Social Media?

Does the c-suite need to be on social media? This badger doesn't think so...

“Audiences want to hear from an individual. It’s hard to be social with a company. It’s much easier to be social with a human."

The words of Andrew Williams, quoted in this recent piece on CEO and the broader ExCo's use of social media.

Audiences DO want to hear from the people leading companies but what they don't need is for those leaders to regurgitate company lines and corporate news.

They love to see leaders bringing their experiences, expertise, and values to the fore of their activity here, and it's no wonder.

People don't get tend to get into leadership positions by doing and saying the same things as everyone else, yet the way many leaders present themselves on social media can often feel generic, bland, and tokenistic.

Establishing a consistent presence on social, through which you can show - not tell - what you are all about as a leader is becoming the norm for the execs.

As a leader, you can do this on social media every time you post or engage.

And the sooner you start doing it, the greater the chance to reach and influence your audiences.
